Back up Unity, Godot, Blender and code projects

Development folders contain both irreplaceable source work and disposable generated files. VaultSync lets you select the project folders that matter, apply an exclusion preset, and create local or NAS-backed recovery points you can inspect and test.

Step by step

A practical backup workflow

Protect development projects with a free, open-source desktop backup app. Choose sensible exclusions, create restore points, and verify stored data.

01

Choose the actual project folder

Add a source folder that contains your scenes, assets, code, and configuration. VaultSync is folder based: it does not image your whole operating system.

02

Review a preset before backing up

Choose a Unity, Godot, Unreal Engine, Blender, .NET, Node.js, or other project preset as appropriate. Presets aim to skip disposable build output and caches, but they are not substitutes for reviewing your own project structure.

03

Select independent destinations

Use a local disk, external drive, or supported mounted network/NAS destination. Keep multiple independent copies if the project cannot be recreated.

04

Check a recovery point

Create a backup, inspect its history, verify supported stored bytes, and run a recovery drill or test restore before depending on it.

Before you rely on it

Know the limits of the backup.

A preset may intentionally omit generated or machine-local files. Use No preset or custom exclusions if those files matter to you.

Live Git internals are not covered by the default development presets. Use a remote repository and an independent export or clone for version-control protection.

A verified file is not automatically proof that an entire project will open successfully in its editor. Perform a real restore and open the project yourself.

Common questions

What to check before starting

Does VaultSync replace Git?

No. Git handles version control and collaboration; VaultSync handles folder-level backup and recovery points. Both can be useful together.

Does it automatically ignore every safe-to-delete file?

No preset can understand every plugin or custom build pipeline. Review the effective exclusions and confirm a test restore includes what you need.
